Rajan Vankar

Weaving is a way of life in the arid terrain of the Kutch District on the Indian-Pakistan border.  Rajan Vankar, who learned the trade from watching his father and grandfather in their family workshop, creates beautiful hand-crafted shawls that reflect his commitment to the 600-year-old tradition of Kutch weaving.  Using an extra weft technique, this fourth-generation master weaver fashions distinctive, intricately hand-woven designs, patterns, and motifs that are symbolically significant in Kutch culture, honoring that tradition.
